Ukrzaliznytsia completed Starlink testing in trains
By the end of the year, satellite Internet will appear in all Intercity+ high-speed trains
In the summer of last year, Ukraine announced the launch of the Starlink satellite Internet service in trains. Now Ukrzaliznytsia has announced the completion of testing, which means that Starlink will soon appear in UZ trains.
Currently, the test equipment is installed on only one Intercity+ high-speed train, which runs on different routes. During testing of the service on the Kyiv-Kharkiv route, the average speed of the Internet per port was 65.7 Mbit/s, and it was possible to ensure uninterrupted Internet access on 96.7% of the route.
The Digital Ministry has already handed over 450 Starlink terminals to UZ, and another batch of equipment is expected at the beginning of February. As part of the project, satellite Internet will appear in all Intercity+ high-speed trains by the end of 2023, so that passengers can watch movies, stay connected and work right on the go.
There is still no talk of installing terminals in regular trains and electric trains.
