Allowing Israeli planes to fly over Saudi Arabia would allow Israel to establish direct flights to Asia, such as China and India.
Even before the departure of US President Biden to Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom’s Civil Aviation Authority announced its decision to allow Israeli planes to fly over its territory.
The US national security adviser commented on the decision: ‘Biden welcomes it, it is necessary for the prosperity and security of the United States and Israel.’
The decision of the Civil Aviation Authority of Saudi Arabia is aimed at ‘strengthening Saudi Arabia’s position as a global hub connecting three continents and expanding international air travel.’
What it gives Israel: Israeli airlines will be able to fly through the kingdom on their way to Asia, not just to destinations in the Persian Gulf.
After the signing of the Abraham Accords, Saudi Arabia began to allow Israeli airlines to fly over its skies through a special corridor to the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. This prevented Israel from having direct flights to Asia, including China and India.
