Roskomnadzor demands that Wikipedia remove articles about the war in Ukraine

The Russian information regulator accused the encyclopedia of “information attacks”.

Roskomnadzor has filed claims against the Russian-language version of Wikipedia. Russia is demanding the removal of articles about the full-scale war in Ukraine and the atrocities of the Russian military.

This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

Roskomnadzor said that due to the Russian law on “fakes” from Wikipedia should remove the following materials:

  • Battle of Kyiv (2022);
  • War crimes during the Russian invasion of Ukraine;
  • The shelling of a hospital in Mariupol;
  • Destruction of the Mariupol Theater (2022);
  • Massacre in Bucha.

Recall that Wikipedia is a publicly available free multilingual online encyclopedia that anyone can edit. Before publication, each article in the encyclopedia reviewed by independent community experts.

As SUNDRIES reported earlier, Russia is blocking the truth about the war in Ukraine, which was unleashed by Moscow. On March 4, a number of websites and information resources blocked. Roskomnadzor’s technical means of counteracting threats probably used to block it.

At the same time, Roskomnadzor constantly threatens Wikipedia with blockades in Russia and fines of millions for allegedly incorrect coverage of the “special operation” in Ukraine.
