Quarantine in Shanghai: Authorities release robots on the street to disperse people to their homes

The Shanghai authorities have found an unusual way to inform about quarantine rules. Loudspeakers taped the four-legged robots and sent them to patrol the streets.

Shanghai has introduced a two-stage quarantine, which severely restricts the movement of half the population on different days. In March, 30,000 Covid-19 cases were reported in the city. As of April 3, there were already 7,788.

Works on the streets of Shanghai

  • Robot dog move through the streets, repeating the instruction: “put on a mask, wash your hands, check the temperature.”
  • They may shout more frightening messages.
  • Among them, for example, “Your behavior violated the rules of the pandemic” or “Please go home immediately, otherwise you will be punished according to law.”

This robot was noticed in the Jiading district. Locals told Newsflare: at first, they thought it was a drone because they had previously appeared on the streets with the message “Please go home immediately, otherwise you will be punished according to the law.”

Statistics show that Shanghai currently accounts for 62 percent of all COVID-19 cases in China. The measures taken by the authorities are sometimes very radical. For example, Reuters reports that most Shanghai residents are now banned from leaving their homes, even to take out the garbage, and pets of COVID-19 patients in Shanghai must be destroyed.
