Parallel imports did not help – thousands of Samsung smartphones can not be activated in Russia

Another setback for the Russians was to bypass useful sanctions. The next Russian ship was followed by hopes to use modern Samsung smartphones.

According to users in Russia, they cannot activate smartphones that were imported to this territory through the parallel import procedure (import of goods bearing any trademark into the country without the permission of the owner of this trademark). We will remind, because of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine the Samsung company stopped delivery of the production to Russia.

According to available information, some Samsung smartphones cannot be activated on their own if you insert a SIM card from a Russian operator. According to the company’s rules, the region of the operator’s card must correspond to the region of official sale. According to preliminary data, users face the problem of activating such ‘parallel imported’ (illegally imported) Samsung smartphones in about 20% of cases. Approximately 45-50 thousand Samsung smartphones were imported to Russia under the parallel import procedure.

However, one of the service centers undertakes to unlock such devices for a fee of 5 thousand rubles. For two weeks, Samsung is reviewing the appeal and may provide the service center staff with a special code for regional unlocking of the smartphone. Or maybe not provide.
