Lexus has shown the future electric car RZ 450e with a steering wheel instead of a classic steering wheel

The Japanese manufacturer of premium cars will present a luxurious rethinking of the electric SUV RZ 450e. The focus was on exterior and interior design, including the controversial steering wheel.

On April 20, Lexus will announce all the details about the new RZ 450e, but photos of the new car are already available. All details and final characteristics will be presented at the presentation.

The RZ 450e is to be a direct competitor to the Audi Q4 e-tron, BMW iX3 and Mercedes EQC. But Lexus clearly wants to draw attention to the driver’s seat, emphasizing in the photo the use of the steering wheel with a towbar. The design of the steering wheel is not original for Toyota – the first was the Tesla Model S Plaid.

Most likely, Lexus RX will use the same recipe as bZ4X, so you should expect autonomy up to 450 km and a 4 × 4 version with up to 220 hp.

Currently, the brand’s task is to convince the public of the benefits of the new steering wheel. The key to understanding this design is not so much in the steering wheel as in the One Motion Grip system, which creates a kind of virtual control that can change the radius of rotation of the steering wheel relative to the wheels. Depending on the speed, the movement of the steering wheel will affect the turning of the car, which will provide greater ease of maneuvering at low speeds, as well as greater stability and comfort at speeds.
