Italy will close all ports for Russian ships from April 17

From April 17, Italian ports will be closed to Russian ships. The ban also applies to ships that changed the flag after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

This was reported by the Italian newspaper La Republicca.

Italy implements this decision in accordance with the directive of the European Union. After all, it will be recalled that the fifth package of sanctions provides for the closure of all EU ports for Russian ships.

Restrictions for Russians

Ships currently in Italian ports must close and leave their business. Others will no longer have the right to moor at the Italian port.

The ban also applies to ships that change their flag from Russian to any other flag after February 24, 2022,” the decision said.

At the same time, the exception will be vessels that need access to ports for security reasons or that have rescued people at sea.

New package of sanctions

EU countries are considering the next, sixth, package of sanctions against Russia. It may take into account the embargo on Russian oil. According to American media, this decision may be made after the presidential election in France, which will be held on April 24. It will be recalled that under the previous package of sanctions, the EU approved an embargo on Russian coal.
