It turns out that some Kias and Hyundais are very easy to steal

We are talking about Kia cars from the 2011 model year, as well as Hyundai models starting from the 2015 model year.

A wave of thefts of Hyundai and Kia cars swept through the United States. The fact is that hackers discovered an elementary way to get hold of some models of these Korean manufacturers. Fraudsters only need to enter the salon and use a USB cable to start it. There are several videos on social media that demonstrate how to commit this crime.

Among the victims are Kia cars from the 2011 model year, as well as Hyundai cars from the 2015 model year. Knowing about this problem, in some American cities, the police distributed steering wheel immobilizers to the owners of these cars.

A group of people called the Kia Boys have been posting videos of Hyundai and Kia thefts on social media. For this, they use only a USB cable. The kidnappers then show how fun they are riding in these cars.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin is the epicenter of this issue. In 2021, the number of thefts of Hyundai and Kia vehicles increased by 2,644 percent compared to the previous year. As of September 2021, the police indicated that 20 of these models were being stolen every day.

This issue did not arise only in this city, reports of Kia and Hyundai thefts have increased throughout the country.

The car manufacturer Hyundai and Kia claim that all new cars have an engine immobilizer, which means that this problem does not affect them. As for earlier models, they supposedly ‘meet or exceed federal vehicle safety standards, with engine immobilizers as standard equipment.’
