iPhone 15 will get Apple’s own 5G modem, better than Qualcomm’s solution

With its single-chip A and M series systems, Apple has already proven that it can create far more productive and efficient solutions than its competitors.

Wall Street analysts say Apple will use its own 5G modem in smartphones in the iPhone 15 line in 2023. TSMC will produce this modem using 3 or 4 nm technology.

The source adds that Apple has lured a large number of Intel engineers to develop modems, as well as recruiting experts in satellite communications. Wayne Lem, director of advanced analysis at CCS, said the move to proprietary modems would reduce dependence on Qualcomm and reduce costs. He also believes that Apple can adjust the chip so that it works better than competitors’ solutions. The signal level and data rate are expected to be better than Qualcomm’s solutions.

With its single-chip A and M series systems, Apple has already proven that it can create far more productive and efficient solutions than its competitors. Therefore, the prediction for modems may be accurate.

Starting with the iPhone 7, Apple began using Intel modems. The last two generations have used Qualcomm modems.
