Hungary expects to sign an agreement with the Russian Federation on additional gas supplies in August

Hungary expects to sign an agreement with the Russian Federation on additional gas supplies in the amount of 700 million cubic meters by the end of the summer, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told state radio on Friday, writes Reuters.

There will be enough gas in Hungary. We are negotiating with the Russians to buy an additional 700 million cubic meters of gas, this agreement can be signed during the summer, and then we will be safe,” – he added.

According to Gas Infrastructure Europe, Hungary’s gas storage is currently about 50% full, covering 29% of its annual consumption. Hungary, which is about 85% dependent on Russian gas, also opposes the introduction of EU sanctions on Russian gas imports.

Under a 15-year deal with Russia’s Gazprom (GAZP.MM) signed last year, Hungary will receive 3.5 billion cubic meters of gas a year via Bulgaria and Serbia and another 1 billion cubic meters via a pipeline from Austria.
