How cryptocurrency helps Ukrainians fight the enemy

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, we have received a lot of help from abroad. Much of this assistance came in cryptocurrency.

The scale of aid

The crypto community transferred more than $100 million to Ukraine during the first month of the war. The charity Aid For Ukraine alone has raised more than $60 million in cryptocurrency for military and humanitarian purposes since its launch, the Ministry of Digital said.

By the way, Vitaliy Buterin, the founder of the world’s second cryptocurrency Ethereum and a Russian by birth, transferred aid to Ukraine through this organization. He donated 1,500 ETH to Ukraine, equivalent to $5 million. Half went to Aid for Ukraine, the other to the Unchain Fund.

Finland plans to transfer cryptocurrencies seized from criminals to Ukraine, Helsingin Sanomat reports. It is unknown exactly how much Ukraine will receive, but the potential for assistance is $77 million. And these are just a few examples of help.

Why cryptocurrency

Cryptocurrency transfers are fast, cheap, and secure. And most importantly – this way you can bypass the bureaucracy. For example, the Return Alive Foundation has disappeared from the Patreon fundraising platform because it does not allow it to raise money for military purposes. There are no such problems with cryptocurrency. You can even send it anonymously.

Blockchain allows us to scale our efforts in a way that was previously impossible for us. The old ways of raising money are sometimes really slow and just awkward, – said Nadiya Tolokonnikova, a DAO spokeswoman in Ukraine, in an interview with The New York Times.

Money sent to us in cryptocurrency is safer. And they do not depend on the stability of the banking system of a country in the midst of war.

How to help Ukraine in cryptocurrency

Anyone can donate cryptocurrency for the military or humanitarian needs of Ukraine. Cryptocurrencies for this can be found on the website of the Ministry of Digital. There is an opportunity to do it in bitcoins, Ethereum, Tether, Solana, Dogecoin, and many other cryptocurrencies. You can also help the Ukrainian army by buying NFT.
