Cyber ​​scammer detained in Vinnytsia region, who hacked accounts and collected money allegedly for purchase of ammunition

The cyber police of Vinnytsia region found and detained a 25-year-old local resident who hacked the accounts of social network users, after which he posted a post about the owner of the page about collecting money to buy ammunition, as he was allegedly going to the front. In such a difficult situation in Ukraine, most relatives and friends of users sent financial aid to the cybercriminal’s card. In a few days, the criminal managed to “collect” about 60 thousand hryvnias.

“Currently, the cyber police is establishing how the defendant gained access to user accounts. According to preliminary data, the attacker used phishing links,” – the police said in a statement.

Investigators of the Vinnytsia District Police Department opened a criminal case under Art. 190 (fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Investigative actions continue.

Cyberpolice reminded that to protect social network accounts from hacking, you should create strong, strong passwords and not use the same password for multiple resources. Furthermore, do not follow questionable hyperlinks and be sure to enable two-factor authentication.
