Apple wants to sell iPhones and other devices on a subscription basis for a monthly fee

The Cupertino-based tech giant is working on a subscription service for iPhones and other devices. According to Bloomberg sources, this allows users of Apple gadgets to subscribe not only to digital services, but also to equipment. And, accordingly, get new devices as they are released. Interestingly, Tim Cook hinted at this back in 2019.

The new (and not officially announced) program will differ from the installment plan in that the monthly fee will not be equal to the price of the device divided into 12 or 24 parts. Most likely, this will be a monthly fee, the amount of which depends on which device the user chooses.

The idea is to make the process of buying an iPhone or iPad look like a monthly fee for using iCloud cloud storage or an Apple Music subscription. Apple customers will be able to subscribe to gadgets using their Apple ID and App Store account, which are used to purchase apps and subscribe to services.

The iPhone is Apple’s largest source of revenue and, accordingly, has the largest sales. Last year, smartphones brought the company almost майже 192 billion — more than half of its revenue. The launch of the device’s subscription service allows the Cupertino giant to increase revenue as consumers start regularly spending thousands of dollars on new gadgets. But they will be able to change their devices to newer ones. Historically, the company releases new versions of its core products, including the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, every year.

It is expected that the service for buying Apple equipment by subscription will be launched at the end of 2022, but it may be postponed to 2023 (or it will be canceled altogether).

The company is also considering combining its gadget subscription program with Apple One and Apple Care. The devices may ship with TV+, Arcade, Music, Fitness+, and iCloud storage already connected, but for a lower monthly fee.
