About 4.5 million tons of grain are blocked in the ports of Ukraine: many countries depend on Ukrainian wheat – the UN

The representative of the UN World Food Program said that before the war, Ukraine was one of the world’s most important producers of wheat, as well as a major supplier of corn.

The war in Ukraine is seriously affecting the ability to export food. Some products are stuck in Ukrainian ports. This was stated by the representative of the UN World Food Program Martin Frick in an interview with DPA.

Currently, almost 4.5 million tons of grain are stuck in Ukrainian ports and ships and can not be used,” – said Frick.

According to him, food supplies are difficult because Ukrainian ports and sea routes to the country are inaccessible due to the Russian invasion.

Before the war, Ukraine was one of the world’s most important producers of wheat, as well as a major supplier of corn. Many countries depend on cheap wheat from Ukraine, said Frick.

Hunger should not be a weapon,” – he said.
