A well-known journalist showed impressive footage of Donetsk airport

Donetsk Airport operated until May 2014 and was the most modern regional airport of Ukraine at that time. The state built a new runway, aircraft parking lots and a modern terminal for $800 million.

The current state of the resort was shown by the well-known Ukrainian journalist Yurii Butusov. In the released video, you can see the ruins of the airport.

To the left you can see the platform where the planes once stood and the remains of the terminal. In the central part – a flyover that divided the flows of passengers arriving and departing. To the right is all that remains of the multi-level parking lot. Only Boryspil airport had the same structure.

Militants of the so-called ‘DPR’ first tried to seize Donetsk airport on May 26, 2014. On this day, the resort stopped its work forever.

The Ukrainian military was able to regain control over the airport, and at the beginning of June 2014, the business jets of businessman Ritan Akhmetov and the Rosy Vitriv airbus were even able to take off from it.

At first, damage to the airport infrastructure was not critical. However, the militants increased their shelling. At the beginning of 2015, they destroyed the old and new terminals, multi-level parking and damaged the airfield.

In Yuriy Butusov’s video, the Ukrainian military struck enemy positions near the airport, as the area is currently occupied. The video was shot at the end of July 2022.
